ADHD COUNSELLING

COUNSELLING THAT MEETS YOU WHERE YOU ARE. NOT WHERE OTHERS EXPECT YOU TO BE.

Living with ADHD can feel like you are constantly running a race no one else seems to be in –  always trying to keep up, always feeling a step behind. You may be juggling work, relationships, and the rollercoaster of your own emotions, all while masking just to get through the day. Even when you are “coping,” the effort it takes can leave you mentally and physically exhausted.

There are many reasons why people may turn to counselling – please read on.

WHY YOU MAY CONSIDER ADHD COUNSELLING

Maybe you have only recently begun to suspect ADHD might be the thread running through your life’s challenges, and the realisation has brought a flood of mixed emotions — relief, grief, anger, or confusion. Or perhaps you’ve known for a while, but you’re still carrying years of unprocessed experiences: the misunderstandings, the criticism, the feeling of being “too much” or “not enough.”

Some people come to counselling because they’re in burnout — the kind that sneaks up after years of pushing through exhaustion and overwhelm. Others arrive because they are stuck in cycles of anxiety, perfectionism, or emotional reactivity. You might notice that small triggers can spiral into days of self-criticism, or that rejection sensitivity makes even minor feedback feel devastating. It’s not about being weak — it’s about the toll it takes to constantly navigate a world that isn’t built for your brain.

Whether you are trying to process a recent diagnosis, make sense of your history, or simply find better ways to cope day-to-day, ADHD counselling offers a space to be seen without judgement, and to begin untangling the patterns that keep you stuck.

How Can ADHD Counselling Help?

As someone with ADHD myself, I understand the layers — the lived experience behind the textbook definition. I know how easy it is to internalise shame when you’ve been misunderstood for so long, and how that shame can quietly influence everything from your relationships to your self-worth.

In our work together, we go beyond symptom management. We explore the emotional landscape that comes with ADHD — the grief over missed opportunities, the frustration of feeling “capable but inconsistent,” the loneliness of masking, and the weight of constant self-monitoring. We unpack these experiences not to “fix” you, but to give you the tools and awareness to navigate them in a way that honours your wiring.

We might look at how certain patterns have developed, identify triggers that cause emotional spirals, and find ways to create safety and stability in your daily life. This is not about forcing you into neurotypical frameworks. It’s about building strategies, perspectives, and coping tools that work with your brain, not against it.

what to expect

Sessions are warm, straightforward, and tailored to what you need most. Sometimes that might mean practical tools for handling difficult moments. Other times it might mean simply having the space to speak freely — without having to explain or justify your reactions. You set the pace, and we adapt as we go.

You don’t have to spend the first few sessions educating me about ADHD. That understanding is already in the room, which means we can start where you are and work towards where you want to be. Whether you come with a clear goal or just a sense that something needs to shift, you will find a space here where you can breathe, feel understood, and begin to rebuild trust in yourself.

I offer ADHD counselling online across the UK, as well as in person in Norwich and the surrounding areas.
