Privacy notice

This notice explains what I do with personal information, whether you have contacted me through this website or worked with me as a client.

Who I am

Michael Dodden, trading as Values Habits Goals. I am a coach and hypnotherapist based in Norwich, registered with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I am the data controller for the information described here.

What I collect through this website

The contact form asks for your title, your first and last name, your email address, your phone number if you want to give it, and a short message. The phone number is optional.

I use that only to reply to you and, if we go ahead, to arrange a first conversation. Submissions are emailed to me and also stored in this website’s database on my hosting.

I do not use this website to build a mailing list, and I do not sell or pass enquiry details to anyone.

What I collect if we work together

  • Your contact details
  • Notes about our sessions
  • Anything you choose to tell me about your health, circumstances or background that is relevant to the work

Some of that is what the law calls special category data, health information in particular. I record only what is necessary, and I ask for your explicit consent before doing so.

Cookies

This site does not track you. There is no advertising, no analytics, and no third party scripts of any kind. The only cookie it sets is the one that remembers the choice you make in the consent banner.

If I ever add analytics or anything else that tracks visitors, I will update this notice and ask your permission before it is switched on.

My lawful bases

  • Enquiries: legitimate interests. You contacted me and you expect a reply.
  • Client work: contract. I need the information to provide the service we have agreed.
  • Health and other special category information: your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Where I get information from

Directly from you, in every case.

Who else sees it

  • My web hosting provider, which stores this website and its database
  • My email provider, which carries messages between us

Nobody else, unless I am required to share something by law, or there is a serious risk of harm to you or to someone else. If that ever arose I would tell you, wherever it was safe and possible to do so.

How long I keep things

  • Website enquiries that do not lead to any work: deleted within 12 months.
  • Client records: kept for 7 years after our last contact, which is the standard in my profession and what my insurance requires. They are then destroyed.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to limit how I use it, to object to my using it, and to have it transferred elsewhere. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

Some exemptions apply, so you may not always receive everything you ask for. The ICO explains each right in detail.

To make a request, email or phone me using the details above. I will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first and I will try to put it right. If you are still unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
